Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda is one of East Africa's most biologically diverse protected areas, covering 1,978 km² of savannah, tropical forest, wetlands, and Albertine Rift crater lakes. The Kazinga Channel, a 40 km natural waterway connecting Lakes Edward and George, offers outstanding boat safaris past massive hippo pods, Nile crocodile, buffalo, and over 600 bird species. The Ishasha sector in the park's south is one of a handful of places on Earth where lions habitually climb trees, draping themselves across fig branches at close range from open game-drive vehicles. Combined with Bwindi or Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park forms the centrepiece of Uganda's most popular and rewarding multi-park safari circuit.
