Rwanda Gorilla Trekking and Golden Monkey Safari
This 4-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari centres on Volcanoes National Park, where mountain gorillas and rare golden monkeys live on the forested slopes of the Virunga volcanoes. It is one of Africa’s most powerful wildlife experiences and a carefully planned short break from Kigali.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Arrive Kigali
Arrive at Kigali International Airport. Our driver and representative meet you, provide a brief welcome orientation, and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali: one of Africa's cleanest and most modern capitals. Evening at leisure.
Day 2Kigali City Tour – Drive to Musanze / Volcanoes NP (approx. 2 hrs)
After breakfast, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre: a moving and deeply educational tribute to the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994. Continue to a local restaurant for lunch before driving north to Musanze, the gateway town to Volcanoes National Park. Stop at the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn about gorilla conservation and the legacy of Dian Fossey. Transfer to your lodge near the park for dinner.
Day 3Mountain Gorilla Trekking, Volcanoes National Park
Rise early for the gorilla trek. After a park briefing at the headquarters, your ranger guides you into the dense bamboo and Hagenia forest of the Virunga volcanoes. The trek typically takes 2–6 hours depending on gorilla movement. Once found, spend one hour observing the habituated mountain gorilla family: perhaps the most profound wildlife experience in Africa. Return to the lodge for lunch. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 4Golden Monkey Tracking – Return to Kigali – Departure
After an early breakfast, return to Volcanoes NP for golden monkey tracking in the bamboo forest. The endemic golden monkeys are playful, noisy and utterly charming. After the activity, drive back to Kigali (2 hrs) for a farewell lunch and transfer to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.
