Overview
The Namibia Self-Drive Luxury Safari is a 10-day safari through Windhoek, Sossusvlei, Swakopmund & Etosha, designed and operated by Saringi Tours. Based in Nairobi and women-led, Saringi has been building private African itineraries since 2018. Every game drive, lodge, and activity has been chosen for what it adds to the experience as a whole.
Southern Africa covers a lot of ground, and the sequence matters. Saringi has been putting these itineraries together since 2018, and this one is built to balance game-rich safari days with the scenery and culture that make the region worth the journey. Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Arrive Windhoek -- Collect 4x4
Arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport, collect your pre-arranged 4x4 rental vehicle, and overnight in Windhoek. Briefing on road conditions and key route information.
Day 2Self-Drive to Sossusvlei
Self-drive south on the B1 and C19 into the Namib Desert (approx. 5 hrs), arriving for a sundowner over the dunes as the light shifts from gold to amber.
Day 3Sossusvlei & Deadvlei
Full day exploring Sossusvlei and Deadvlei at your own pace. Enter through Sesriem gate, drive the track to the dunes, and walk into the white clay pan with its ancient dead camelthorn trees. Optional afternoon scenic flight over the dune sea.
Day 4Drive to Swakopmund
Self-drive northwest to the coast (approx. 4-5 hrs), arriving at Swakopmund, a cosmopolitan German colonial town on the Skeleton Coast backed by dunes and fronted by the cold South Atlantic.
Day 5Swakopmund Activities
A free day for adventure activities: quad biking over coastal dunes, sandboarding, a Walvis Bay dolphin and seal cruise, or a guided tour of Swakopmund's striking German colonial architecture.
Day 6Drive to Damaraland
Self-drive north into Damaraland (approx. 3-4 hrs), stopping at Twyfelfontein's extraordinary rock art site with over 2,500 San engravings -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 7Damaraland -- Desert Elephant Tracking
Guided desert-elephant tracking excursion from your lodge. These remarkable animals have adapted to survive in one of Africa's harshest landscapes, covering extraordinary distances between water sources.
Day 8Drive to Etosha National Park
Self-drive to Etosha National Park (approx. 4-5 hrs), arriving for an afternoon self-guided game drive. Etosha's white salt pan stretches 5,000 sq km and is visible from space.
Day 9Full Day Etosha Self-Drive
A full day of self-guided game drives around Etosha's waterholes and pan. Lion, elephant, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, and Namibia's black rhino are regularly encountered. The Okaukuejo and Halali waterhole hides allow for spectacular close-range photography.
Day 10Etosha -- Drive to Windhoek -- Departure
Final morning game drive before the drive south to Windhoek (approx. 5 hrs) for your international departure. End of Saringi Tours services.
