Overview
This eight-day journey moves from Kenya's Maasai Mara into the Serengeti, then on through Ngorongoro to Tarangire. There is a full game-drive day in each of the Mara, Serengeti and Tarangire, with a crater visit between the final two stops. The route begins in Nairobi and ends in Arusha.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Nairobi – Maasai Mara (approx. 5 hrs)
Meet your guide at your Nairobi hotel or JKIA. Drive southwest through the Rift Valley and arrive at the Maasai Mara by lunchtime. Check in, have lunch and rest before an afternoon game drive from 4 to 6 p.m.
Day 2Maasai Mara – Full Day
Spend the entire day in the Maasai Mara Reserve. Track the Big Five across the open grasslands and along the Mara River. Picnic lunch in the field. Possible wildebeest migration river crossings in season. Optional: hot air balloon at dawn.
Day 3Maasai Mara – Serengeti (border crossing or charter flight)
Depart after breakfast for Tanzania via the Isebania/Sirari border: a full day's drive of 7–8 hours (packed lunch from camp). On arrival at the Serengeti enter through the park gate with an introductory game drive. Alternatively, charter a flight from the Mara airstrip to Seronera (approx. $658/person extra) to arrive early afternoon. Dinner and overnight in camp.
Day 4Serengeti – Full Day
Full-day game drives in the Serengeti. Home to Africa's Big Five and the world's largest concentration of predators. Picnic lunch in the field. Optional hot air balloon, sundowners or bush breakfast.
Day 5Serengeti – Ngorongoro Rim (approx. 3–4 hrs via NCA)
Morning game drive then drive east through the NCA highlands. Arrive at the Ngorongoro crater rim by mid-afternoon. Introductory drive along the rim road before dinner at the lodge overlooking the vast caldera below.
Day 6Ngorongoro Crater – Tarangire (approx. 3 hrs)
Descend into the crater after breakfast with packed picnic lunches. Spend the morning on the crater floor among its remarkable concentration of wildlife. After lunch at the in-crater picnic site, ascend the crater wall and drive east to Tarangire National Park for an evening game drive.
Day 7Tarangire – Full Day
Morning and afternoon game drives in Tarangire. The park is renowned for one of the highest elephant densities in East Africa: herds of 200 or more are common along the Tarangire River. Baobab trees, large prides of lion and a diversity of raptors make this a favourite among photographers.
Day 8Tarangire – Arusha – Departure
Morning at leisure or optional early nature walk. Drive to Arusha and transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport or your Arusha hotel. End of services.

Your first Tanzanian arrival on this route is in mainland Tanzania. Use the official NIC portal to arrange the applicable policy before travel.
Standard insurance rates are US$44 per adult aged 18 or over, US$22 per child aged 3–17, and free for ages 0–2, subject to the insurer's eligibility rules and checkout. Insurance age bands may differ from lodge child rates. Cover is for up to 92 days, with the actual dates shown on your certificate. Keep the certificate and QR code accessible throughout the trip.
Residents of EAC and SADC member states qualify for the mainland exemption under NIC's published rules. This is residence-based, not simply a passport exemption. Confirm eligibility with NIC before departure.
The government policy is purchased separately and excluded from this safari price. Keep comprehensive personal travel insurance suitable for your activities, medical needs, cancellation risks and other countries visited.
