8-Day Etosha & Sossusvlei Explorer

Arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek. Our driver meets you and heads north toward Etosha National Park (approx. 5 hrs). Arrive at Anderson Gate in time for an afternoon drive. The western sector of Etosha is the most productive: lions patrol the pan edge and elephants converge on the Okaukuejo waterhole as the sun sets.

A complete day of game drives in Etosha. Depart before dawn for the lions' last activity of the night. The park's waterholes provide some of the most reliable lion viewing in Africa: unlike the Serengeti or Mara, where finding predators requires covering vast distances, Etosha's game comes to you. Midday at the lodge. Afternoon drive to the Halali camp area, known for its black rhino visits at the waterhole. Evening at the Okaukuejo floodlit waterhole.

Drive east across the park, stopping at waterholes along the route. The central pan viewpoints offer extraordinary wide-sky perspectives across Etosha's salt flats. The eastern sector's denser mopane woodland shelters cheetah, leopard, and occasionally the endangered black-faced impala found only in Namibia. Overnight at the eastern end of the park.

A final dawn game drive in Etosha's eastern sector before breakfast. Depart the park and drive south through the central plateau, passing through Okahandja and the Namibian interior. The landscape grows progressively more sparse and dramatic as you approach the Namib-Naukluft. Arrive at Sesriem by late afternoon for a first look at the canyon.

Pre-dawn entry through the Sesriem gate, before public access, for the exclusive dune experience. The Sossusvlei dunes — Dune 45, Big Daddy, and the surrounding formations — are at their most extraordinary in the first hour of light, when the colours shift from deep purple through amber to blazing orange. Descend to Deadvlei: the white clay pan with its ring of 900-year-old dead camel thorn trees is one of Africa's most extraordinary natural scenes. Return to lodge before the midday heat.

A guided morning walk across the gravel plains of the Namib-Naukluft National Park with a specialist naturalist. The apparent emptiness of the Namib conceals extraordinary adaptations: fog-basking beetles that collect moisture from their backs, Welwitschia plants that can live for 2,000 years, and oryx that can tolerate body temperatures that would kill most mammals. Afternoon hot air balloon flight over the dune sea (optional, seasonal, approx. $280/person).

Drive into the NamibRand Nature Reserve: one of Africa's largest private nature reserves and home to Africa's first designated Dark Sky Reserve. Afternoon guided walk through the reserve's varied landscapes: red sand dunes, rocky outcrops, and grassy flats with gemsbok, springbok and mountain zebra. After dinner, a guided stargazing session with binoculars: in the NamibRand's zero light-pollution sky, the Milky Way is a physical presence overhead.

Final sunrise walk in the reserve before breakfast. Drive to Windhoek (approx. 4.5 hrs) with a stop at the roadside crafts market at Rehoboth. Transfer to Hosea Kutako International Airport. End of Saringi Tours services.
