5 Days Maasai Mara Safari Experience

Early departure from Nairobi after breakfast. Drive southwest through the Rift Valley, pausing at the great escarpment viewpoint where the valley floor stretches to the horizon. Arrive in the Mara by lunchtime, check in, and head straight out for your first afternoon game drive. Even the first drive often yields extraordinary sightings: cheetah mothers with cubs are a Mara signature.

Sunrise game drive through the golden grasslands: predators are still active from the night and leopard are often caught returning to their trees. Full-day drive with a packed picnic lunch at the Mara River. The river crossing sites (July–October) are extraordinary: up to 2,000 wildebeest and zebra plunge into crocodile-filled waters in a matter of minutes. Sundowner drinks on the plains as the light turns amber.

Visit the Mara Triangle on the western bank: a different landscape of rolling hills, dense forest corridors and spectacular viewpoints. The Triangle has some of the highest lion densities in Africa. Afternoon drive along the Talek River tracking elephant family groups as they move between the swamps and forest. Optional evening Maasai village visit.

Your final full day in the Mara. Spend the morning tracking the big cats your guide knows best: each guide has favourite individuals they follow daily, so by day four the animals feel familiar. Afternoon: birding drive along the forest edge, looking for Martial Eagle, Lappet-faced Vulture, and Lilac-breasted Roller. Farewell bush dinner or sundowner in the reserve.

Final sunrise drive before a hearty breakfast. Reluctant farewells to the Mara and the drive back to Nairobi, arriving by mid-afternoon. End of services.
