14 Days of Rwanda, Amboseli, Lewa & Maasai Mara Safari

Arrive at Kigali International Airport. After clearing immigration, our safari driver meets you, provides a welcome briefing, and transfers you to your hotel. Kigali is one of Africa's cleanest and most beautifully kept capitals. Evening at leisure.

After breakfast, your guide drives north towards Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. Time permitting, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial: a deeply moving tribute to the victims of 1994: and stop for lunch before continuing. You may also visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn about the ongoing legacy of gorilla conservation. Arrive at your lodge near the park for dinner and overnight.

Rise early for breakfast by 6:30 am and transfer to the park headquarters. Your ranger provides a code-of-conduct briefing before you enter the dense bamboo and Hagenia forest. The trek may take 2–6 hours depending on gorilla movement and group pace. Once found, spend an extraordinary hour observing a habituated mountain gorilla family at close range: perhaps the most powerful wildlife experience in Africa. Return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxed afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, return to the park headquarters for golden monkey trekking in the volcanic bamboo forest. The endemic golden monkeys are playful, noisy and utterly charming: and the trek is generally less demanding than the gorilla trek. Afterwards, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus if not yet done, then drive back to Kigali (approx. 2 hrs) for dinner and an overnight stay. Note: children are not permitted on the gorilla or golden monkey treks; a hotel minder can be arranged.

Transfer to Kigali International Airport for your scheduled flight to Nairobi. On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our Kenyan driver meets you and transfers you to your Nairobi hotel. Rest and orientation before the Kenya leg of the journey begins tomorrow.

A 6 am hotel pick-up and transfer to Wilson Airport for a morning flight to Amboseli. On arrival, your driver-guide meets you for a game drive en route to camp, often yielding the first sightings of Amboseli's famous elephant herds against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Check in and enjoy lunch. Afternoon game drive at 3 or 4 pm across the open savannah and wetlands.

A full day in Amboseli, home to some of Africa's largest and most relaxed elephant herds. Start with a dawn game drive when the light on Kilimanjaro is at its finest, then a picnic breakfast in the bush followed by another drive until mid-morning. Return to the lodge for lunch and rest. Afternoon game drive at 4 pm through the open plains, marshes and observation hill. Optional activities include a hot air balloon safari at sunrise and a cultural visit to a Maasai village.

After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for a flight to Nairobi departing at 8:35 am (arriving 9:40 am). Connect with a flight to Lewa departing at 10:20 am (arriving 11:20 am). Your guide meets you at the Lewa airstrip for a short game drive to camp. Lunch, then an afternoon game drive at 4 pm through Lewa's exclusive wilderness.

Explore the 65,000-acre Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, celebrated for its thriving populations of both black and white rhinos: among the most endangered mammals in the world. Morning and afternoon game drives reveal lions, leopards, elephants, Grevy's zebra and giraffe across open savannah and riverine forest. Other activities include guided bush walks led by Maasai rangers, horse riding at dawn, sundowners in the bush and bush picnics. Night game drives are a highlight of Lewa: not available in most other parks.

Another full day to explore Lewa's extraordinary ecosystem. The conservancy's exclusivity means few vehicles and truly private wildlife encounters. Combine morning and evening game drives with a guided nature walk, horse riding at sunrise, or simply relax at the lodge. African wild dogs, a rare sighting, are occasionally seen here. All meals are enjoyed at the camp with spectacular conservancy views.

After breakfast at camp, transfer to the Lewa airstrip for a flight to the Maasai Mara departing at 9:35 am (arriving approximately 11 am). Your camp vehicle meets you on arrival for a game drive en route to the lodge. Enjoy lunch and a rest during the midday hours, then an afternoon game drive at 4 pm across the golden Mara plains: your first glimpse of the legendary Masai Mara ecosystem.

Immerse yourself in the Maasai Mara, rightly called the Kingdom of Lions. Spend the day on game drives in the Mara Reserve or in one of the private conservancies bordering it, following the Great Wildebeest Migration between July and September. Lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and vast herds of wildebeest and zebra fill the open plains. Optional activities include a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Mara with champagne bush breakfast, a visit to a traditional Maasai village, and guided nature walks.

A full day in the private conservancy adjacent to the Mara Reserve, where fewer vehicles and more intimate wildlife encounters await. In July–September, the wildebeest and zebra herds fill the plains and the famous Mara River crossings can be witnessed at close range. Cheetahs are frequently spotted hunting on these open grasslands, and lion prides with cubs are a common delight. Afternoon at leisure in camp or on a guided Maasai cultural tour.

The final morning of an extraordinary safari. Enjoy a last breakfast, then pack your bags and check out. Transfer to the Mara airstrip for a flight to Nairobi departing at 11:15 am (arriving 12:15 pm). A farewell lunch on arrival, before your driver transfers you to your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international departure.
