Ideal as a weekend getaway or a safari to punctuate a longer Kenya journey, this 3-day itinerary explores two of Kenya's most beautiful Rift Valley lakes: Lake Nakuru, famous for its rhinos and flamingos, and Lake Naivasha, a tranquil freshwater lake teeming with hippos and birdlife.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Nairobi – Lake Nakuru National Park
Depart Nairobi after breakfast and drive northwest through the Great Rift Valley escarpment, pausing at the dramatic viewpoint overlooking the valley floor. Enter Lake Nakuru National Park for an afternoon game drive. Nakuru is one of Kenya's finest parks: home to both black and white rhino, large lion prides, Rothschild giraffe, and vast flocks of lesser flamingo on the lake shore. Check in to your lodge with lake views.
Day 2Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha
Early morning game drive in Nakuru: dawn is the best time for rhino sightings near the forest edge. After breakfast, drive south to the freshwater Lake Naivasha. Board a boat for a 1-hour hippo and bird safari on the lake: over 400 species have been recorded here. In the afternoon, explore Crescent Island on foot with zebras and wildebeest roaming freely around you, or cycle through the dramatic gorges of Hell's Gate National Park.
Day 3Lake Naivasha – Nairobi
Morning at leisure on the lake shore: watch the dawn light paint the Aberdare Hills across the water. Optional early hippo boat ride before breakfast. Depart mid-morning and drive back to Nairobi, arriving by lunchtime. End of services.
