Day 1: Nairobi – Transfer to Maasai Mara (Approx. 5 hours)

Our guide/driver will meet you at your residence and after a short briefing, depart for Masai Mara. Drive south along the floor of the Great Rift Valley. You’ll arrive in time to check into your accommodation and enjoy lunch. After settling in, enjoy the facilities at your lodge and a relaxed evening. Tomorrow you will view wildlife near the Mara River. Each year, nearly two million wildebeest, zebra, and other antelope gather their young and trek across the crocodile-infested Mara River in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Their migratory nature takes them in search of greener pastures and rainfall. The Great Migration is a unique event; no other migration features such a high number of wildlife, except perhaps butterflies and smaller birds.

Day 2-4: Masai Mara – Full-day experience

You'll join your guide for a viewing of The Great Migration across the Mara River, which includes the one type of wildebeest in Maasai Mara and Serengeti Park, the blue wildebeest. They're considered "blue" because, in the sunshine, their glossy coats glisten a shade of blue. You may also hear the species referred to as "gnu” by the local tribes and residents. You can watch the movements and interactions, as well as the attempt to cross the Mara River. In the late afternoon, you'll return to the lodge to relax and enjoy dinner. When not viewing the migration, our knowledgeable guide will take you on extensive game drives in the Mara Reserve. If you’re looking to see Big Cats, the Masai Mara National Reserve is an excellent place to spot them. The Mara has been called the Kingdom of Lions and these powerful hunters dominate these grasslands. Cheetahs are also common in the Mara, as are hyenas and smaller predators such as jackals. You’ll have an excellent opportunity to spot them by enjoying game drives across the Mara plains.
  • Optional activities: Hot air balloon ride, cultural Masai village visit, bush walks, sundowners, bush breakfast or dinner (all at extra cost)
  • Overnight: Zebra Plains Mara Camp or Prideinn Mara Camp or Basecamp Mara / Ashnil Mara Camp or Mara Serena Safari Lodge or Sarova Mara Game Camp/ Entim Mara or Mara Bush Camp- Migration Wing/ Angama Mara

Our driver will then drop you off at your residence.

Location

The sun rose over the Maasai Mara National Reserve, casting a golden light over the savanna. A herd of zebras grazed in the distance, their stripes blending in with the tall grass. A group of elephants trumpeted as they lumbered across the plain, their trunks swaying in the breeze. A young Maasai warrior stood on a hilltop, surveying his land. He was proud of his people and their way of life, and he was determined to protect his home from harm. He knew that the Maasai Mara was a special place, and he was grateful to be a part of it. The warrior watched as a pride of lions stalking through the bush. The lions were hunting, and the warrior knew that they were a threat to the animals that lived in the reserve. He also knew that the lions were an important part of the ecosystem, and he respected their place in the wild. The warrior turned and walked back to his village. He was ready to face the challenges of the day, knowing that he was doing his part to protect his home and his people. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is a beautiful and important place. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, zebras, and many more. The Maasai people have lived in the reserve for centuries, and they are an important part of the ecosystem. The warrior in the story is a symbol of the Maasai people's commitment to protecting their land and their way of life. The Maasai Mara is a place of beauty, wonder, and danger. It is a place where the wild still rules, and where humans must learn to live in harmony with nature.
