Africa Wilderness Safari: Explore Amboseli and Tsavo

Africa Wilderness Safari: Explore Amboseli and Tsavo

per person

Safari Overview

A 4-Day Safari exploring some of Africa’s Best Wilderness Destinations. Discover the huge tusked elephants of Amboseli against the backdrop of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro and the red elephants of Tsavo.

Tsavo West National Park is Kenya’s largest, and one of the most bio-diverse places on the planet. Exceptionally large herds of elephants “pace along,” Baroness Blixen wrote, “as if they had an appointment at the end of the world.” Leopards, buffalos, hartebeest, zebra, giraffe, oryx, bushbuck, waterbuck and lesser kudu (unique to Tsavo) abound. And of course, lions, many of them.

Amboseli National Park is the ideal Kenya destination to soak up the classic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, ironically situated across the border in Tanzania. There’s great big game viewing as well – especially around the Amboseli’s wetland areas – although it’s a popular and busy park at the best of times, given that year-round here is considered the best time for a safari in Kenya.

Eagles soar gracefully through the sky, while vibrant sunbirds flit among the blossoms, painting the landscape with flashes of color. Venturing deeper into the park, guided by the expertise of rangers, visitors discover the hidden gems that Tsavo West holds. The vastness of the park reveals itself through rugged lava flows, towering volcanic cones, and ancient lava caves, showcasing the geological wonders of the region. The Shetani Lava Flow, a testament to the park's turbulent volcanic past, stretches as far as the eye can see, a stark reminder of nature's raw power. As the day progresses, wildlife emerges from the shadows. Elephants, the gentle giants of Tsavo, gracefully move through the landscape, their wrinkled skin and swaying trunks displaying their majestic presence. Lions roam the savannah, their golden coats blending seamlessly with the tall grass, as they silently hunt their prey. Giraffes, with their elegant necks, nibble on the treetops, while zebras and antelopes graze in harmony, always vigilant for any signs of danger. The allure of Tsavo West extends beyond its diverse wildlife. The park is also home to Mzima Springs, an oasis of crystal-clear waters that gush from underground caves, creating a haven for hippos and crocodiles. Visitors can marvel at the underwater world through strategically placed observation points, witnessing the graceful dance of aquatic life beneath the surface. As the sun sets, painting the sky in vibrant hues of orange and purple, the magic of Tsavo West intensifies. The sounds of the African night come alive, with the distant calls of hyenas and the nocturnal symphony of insects creating a captivating ambiance.
